Community policing offers a transformative approach to peace-building by fostering trust, collaboration, and social cohesion at the local level. This briefing explores its role in enhancing community engagement and development in the context of Addis Ababa. Drawing from stakeholder perspectives—including police officers, residents, and community leaders—the study examines how community policing reduces conflict, strengthens trust in institutions, and supports inclusive development. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16 by linking safety, justice, and community well-being. Key findings highlight that community policing enhances local participation, improves security, and addresses social inequalities. However, challenges such as limited resources, public mistrust, and institutional resistance persist. To advance impact, the study recommends strengthening local partnerships, investing in capacity-building and revising policies to support sustainable community-based efforts. The analysis affirms that community policing holds significant potential for driving peace and development in fragile urban settings.
